The Demise of innocence in children is quite a wide concept, about transformation, about the unavoidable change of children maturing at younger and younger ages. And simply about the absence of children in areas where one has previously seen them play. These paintings portray a sentimental melancholy. They make one think about one’s own life and childhood memories. They remind one of siblings or one’s own children, and takes one back to a more innocent time. Confronted by these innocent faces of children, one is also made intensely aware of the loss of their innocence.
