Over the last couple of years I have made a number of small paintings that have happened simultaneously while working on other exhibitions and projects.
Each painting disappeared from the easle even before it ever saw a gallery wall. The paintings were often a sort of antidote and escape from the intensity and pressure that comes from making a body of work around a given theme. I decided that I wanted to make a series of paintings without a theme. Just objective studies of quirky little things I liked - to enjoy the act of painting for it's own sake - and if something of a theme rises out of these paintings by chance then that's fine. Ultimately they are just what they are - small paintings.
